A Portable Power Station could be very useful for a builder, or anyone working in construction.

For instance

  • You may need to turn off the mains electricity when doing specific works.
  • The mains may not yet be connected to the building you are working on.
  • You may be working in an area where an extension cord is impossible or awkward to use.

If you do decide to get a Portable Power Station for construction work, there are a few things to consider.

Power: Whatever your power needs, there should be a Portable Power Station for you. They range from about 150wh to over 3500wh. On some of the higher end models you can purchase additional battery packs and extend the power storage capabilities even further.

Power Usage (Roughly)(please check your actual tools though)

  • Drill. 500+ w
  • Jigsaw. 500+w
  • Chop saw. 1500+w
  • Circular saw. 1200+w

Therefore, if you are only using for an hour or so, anything above 1500wh should get you started.

Charging: Portable Power Stations do not generate power, therefore you will need to charge it. You can of course do this via the mains power in your office/home etc. This will charge the Portable Power Station the quickest (please take a look at our Portable Power Station comparison table to check charging times, price etc). Alternatively, if you are driving from job to job, you could charge it via the car-port in your vehicle. Solar panels can also be purchased separately, but obviously you need to be in a situation where you can use them.

Price: Of course the more power you need, the more expensive the Portable Power Station will be. You can find up to date prices on our comparison table.

A generator: Why not just get a generator? There are a few reasons why you may want to consider a Portable Power Station over a generator.

  1. A Portable Power Station is quiet. You won’t need to disturb the neighbours.
  2. They are very portable. They would be suitable for a contractor/plumber etc going from site to site.
  3. They are clean. If you are inside someone’s house, they don’t make a mess or any other fuss.

If you feel a Portable Power Station would be a benefit for your construction business then definitely consult our comprehensive comparison table.
